Christ
Bible Summer School

Throughtout August, C3 will be getting to know the Bible a little better. The Bible can be a difficult book to get into, certainly parts of it are not an easy read, but it also contains some real gems - some colourful stories, powerful histories and dramatic poetry. More than that, it can reveal the heart of God to us if we allow it to speak to us. If you want to know more, why not come along any sunday except the bank holiday weekend, we'll even provide lunch.

Lent and Easter 2010

Easter eggsShrove Tuesday (Pancake day!) marked the beginning of Lent, traditionally a time of reflection in the run-up to the celebrations of Easter. C3 have some great things planned for this special time of year. If Jesus was here with us today, where would he hang out? what would he think of our lives, our churches and our government. He had some pretty strong things to say about the religious and political leaders of his own day, what would he think of ours? So this lent, we're asking ... where would Jesus be?

Sunday 21st February, 10:30am

In the wilderness?Where would Jesus to find solitude? Would he be able to leave his blackberry behind?

Sunday 28th February, 10:30am

In the pub? Jesus was accused of being a 'glutton and a drunkard' so he obviously enjoyed good meal out with friends. Would we find him in a gastropub, a social club or at the chippy?

Sunday 7th March, 10:30am

Saving the world? Would Jesus be a greenpeace campaigner or a politician? Would he be running for office or running for sport relief?

Sunday 14th March, 10:30am

In church? Would we find Jesus hanging out at Westminster Abbey, or in a universtiy theology department or selling cakes at the church fete?

Sunday 21st March, 10:30am

At home? Would Jesus be climbing the housing ladder, or living in a hostel?

Sunday 28th March (Palm Sunday), 10:30am

A throne or a cross? Has Jesus got the X factor or would he be voted the weakest link?

Thursday 1st April (Maundy Thursday), 7:30pm

Here and now? What do Christians mean when they say Jesus is alive? Can he be living, active and relevant if we can't see him?

Taboo!

Ever felt that some subjects were off limits? Sometimes topics seem too personal or controversial to discuss in church and some have simply been ignored. Often these are the most important factors in how we live our lives today. C3 is dipping our toes in those waters, beginning the new year by having a series of sessions where we can honestly discuss our thoughts and feelings on some of those so-called taboo subjects. Of course we'll be looking at what the bible has to say too and how that's been interpreted over the years. There are many topics we could have chosen but we had to whittle them down to a few. Here they are:

Sunday 10th Jan - Work

It's what you do, spend most of your time at it .. But does that make it what you are? Does work have to be meaningful or is it just a way of making a living?

Sunday 17th Jan - Sex

Making love, satisfying lust, exchanging bodily fluids or making babies? What's God's view on sex? Can we know? Do we care?

(Note - this week we are meeting at Tony and Helen's in Withington - contact us for the address if you'd like to join us.)

Sunday  24th January -Health and Fitness

You are what you eat .. Or so they say. Are they right? Is fat a theological issue? If your body is a temple as the bible says, should it be lean, trim and fit or are we damaging people in the search of the thin and the beautiful?

Sunday 31st January - Homosexuality

Same sex couples, civil partnerships, should the church bless gay marriages?

Sunday 7th February - Politics

Is party politics a hotbed of  greed and corruption or the best expression we have of freedom and equality in government? Or is it both? Does your politics matter? Are you an activist or are you apathetic?
